UPS BRINGS ITS SPEED AND PRECISION TO CANADIAN SLOPES
100-year-old shipping company is official courier as TELUS presents the Whistler World Cup

UPS Canada, a leading provider of shipping and logistics solutions, has announced it will be a presenting sponsor and the official courier as TELUS presents the Whistler World Cup from Feb. 21st to 24th in Whistler, B.C.

The international event will see 160 of the best Men’s and Ladies ski racers from 20 countries — including Austria, the United States, Switzerland, Italy and many more — compete against each other on the same track they will race on during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Franz’s Run for the Ladies and the Dave Murray Downhill for the Men.

As official courier, UPS will be delivering most of the equipment to the event – from timing equipment to skis.  In addition, UPS Canada will sponsor the Ladies Super Combined race on Feb. 24th, an event which combines both a super G and slalom run.

“This is part of our commitment to Canadian sport and specifically to alpine skiing, which has grown immensely over the past 10 years,” said Greg Kane, vice president of Communications for UPS Canada.  “This sponsorship is a natural fit because, much like UPS, skiing is all about precision, speed and accuracy.”

The local The UPS Store®, located on Main Street just outside Whistler Village, is charged for the event and will be ready to provide easy shipping and packaging services for athletes and the estimated 250,000 spectators who may need to ship items back to family and friends around the world.  Spectators will also see Brown® on the slopes with signage on the course and UPS-uniformed volunteers walking the grounds. In addition, three lucky UPS customers will present each day’s winning athletes with their award.

“Partners like UPS are vital to the sport of ski racing in Canada as we seek the human, technical and financial resources to build our program that is the best in the world,” says Alpine Canada Alpin Chief Executive Officer Ken Read. “The support of UPS Canada is key to ensuring vital pieces of equipment arrive safely and on time as TELUS presents the Whistler World Cup.”
